The National Weather Service’s 17–19 November account documents exceptionally heavy lake-effect snow in the hardest-hit locations. It does not mean every part of Buffalo received the same depth.

A deep accumulation in a particularly affected neighbourhood should not automatically be described as the depth everywhere in Buffalo or across the Northeast.

The quoted Erie County description compared the storm’s footprint with a knife. That image is useful because it emphasises a narrow, severe impact rather than a uniform blanket across a broad region. The phrase “and counting” belongs to the original developing-news report, not to the present. Keeping the collection historical allows the pictures to remain vivid without implying that the storm is still ongoing.
