Why “ice shove” is the useful name
Wind, currents and changes affecting the ice cover can push floating ice toward land, where pieces pile and ride over one another. The National Weather Service glossary calls this ice shove. The popular “ice tsunami” label describes its surprising appearance, not the mechanism of a tsunami.
Slow movement does not establish harmlessness. Accumulating ice can exert force on shoreline structures and vegetation; the recording is best appreciated without treating the moving edge as a place to stand.

The trees make the change easier to notice than a close-up of ice alone would. This is a useful way to read many landscape clips: choose a stationary reference, then follow what changes around it.

The slow pace does not make the moving material insignificant; the accumulating mass is the subject.
“Ice tsunami” is a dramatic nickname, while ice shove is the more useful term for this account. It should not be explained as an ordinary tsunami that happens to be frozen, nor should the clip be used to promise that such events rarely cause damage. The recording provides a specific example from eastern Wisconsin. Keeping that place and the recorder’s name makes it possible to distinguish this event from other shoreline-ice videos.
