Recovery has more than one consequence
People, equipment and the possibility of vehicle fluids entering the water all matter. This is a historical clip, not instructions for an improvised lake recovery. The useful distinction is between watching an outcome and knowing that the process was suitable for the conditions.

The opening changes the whole setting
The partially submerged vehicle provides immediate evidence that the surface has already failed at that location. The people and equipment around it are responding to an existing problem. That is a different context from a planned journey across managed ice, and the clip should not be presented as reassurance about the surrounding area.
The result does not reveal every decision
A successful-looking recovery can be visible while equipment limits, ice assessment and later environmental consequences remain outside the recording. Yuri Danilov’s upload preserves one sequence of effort and movement. The story is strongest when it describes that sequence without turning an improvised method into a general set of recovery instructions.

ReplyDeleteLast time I fished a truck out of the mud I duct taped the hook to a piece of pipe and fished until I hooked an axle, then pulled the tape loose. Surely they did something compairable.
