A turquoise lake, an ice arch and a high mountain viewpoint show different ways water and winter shape a photograph. The variety is part of the appeal: not every scene is snow, and not every structure is naturally formed.
Keep the materials distinct
Snow consists of ice crystals accumulated from the atmosphere; a glacier, an icicle and a carved ice feature have different histories. The original definition also incorrectly grouped several forms of frozen precipitation under one melting-and-refreezing explanation.
Notice the human-made elements
Buildings and viewing platforms belong to the landscape story too. An ice arch may require its own provenance rather than a blanket “natural wonder” label. This selection encourages looking carefully at what is actually shown before attaching a dramatic description.

1. Lake Louise, Canada
The lake view combines liquid water, snowy trees and a mountain background. Its turquoise colour should not be confused with the white snow surrounding it: the photograph brings several surfaces together rather than illustrating water only in solid form.

2. A Karakoram glacier stream, northern Pakistan
The stream introduces moving water within an icy landscape. That contrast is the subject of the image: a glacier scene can include flowing meltwater as well as solid ice, and the two should be identified separately.

3. The Utah ice arch
Warm illumination changes the appearance of the arch. The old caption gives Utah as its location but does not establish its complete construction history. The photograph is retained without automatically classifying the structure as a naturally formed geological arch.

4. Hyaku Yonjo Waterfall, Ishikawa, Japan
The waterfall entry connects the collection with a specific Japanese location. A waterfall can contain flowing sections and accumulated ice at the same time; a still photograph cannot establish that the entire watercourse has stopped moving.

5. Svínafellsjökull glacier cave, Iceland
The original places this cave image in the Skaftafell area. It is a historical photograph of ice, not evidence that the same passage remains open or stable. The name supplies geographical context while the picture shows the form and colour recorded at that moment.

6. An Alaskan glacier cave
The Alaska caption gives a broad location rather than a named entrance or route. That level of identification is preserved. The image can be compared with the Icelandic cave for colour, texture and framing without inventing a more precise site.

7. Kandersteg, Switzerland
Kandersteg brings a named Alpine setting into the sequence. Look at how the snow outlines the terrain and any built elements in the image. The village name identifies a place, while the photograph captures one particular seasonal view within it.

8. The Alps
This caption is regional rather than specific. It is useful to keep that limit visible: a broad mountain view should not receive an invented summit name simply to make the heading sound more precise. Its place in the gallery is a landscape study.

9. A spiral-shaped iceberg attributed to Antarctica
The older collection described the unusual form as a spiral iceberg. That is a visual description, not a formal class of iceberg or a verified account of how the shape developed. The original attribution is retained alongside the image.

10. Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina
The named glacier returns the gallery to a large natural ice body in Patagonia. The photograph’s scale is different from an icicle or a temporary arch. Keeping the glacier name with the picture helps distinguish it from unrelated frozen-water scenes.

11. Tschuggen Grand Hotel, Switzerland
A hotel belongs in the built-landscape part of the collection. Snow changes the surrounding setting, but the architecture is human-made. This entry adds variety precisely because it is not another cave or glacier, and its original image remains in place.

12. Piz Gloria, Schilthorn, Switzerland
The high viewing building closes the sequence with architecture above an Alpine panorama. Its position connects a human viewpoint with the mountains beyond. The full twelve-entry structure lets the collection move from lakes and ice to the ways people experience those landscapes.
