Jotunheimen – the Home of the Giants in Norway
The mountainous area in the southern part of the country sprawls over a vast 3 500 km² area. Jotunheimen, which means the home of the giants, features the highest mountain in Norway – Galdhøpiggen (2469 m) – and 28 other highest peaks. The established Jotunheimen National Park provides visitors with the facilities and mountain cabins or lodges.
The place has the biggest concentration of high mountains in Northern Europe. Tourists can enjoy many activities here. The most popular hiking trail along the Besseggen ridge features wonderful views to the emerald Gjende lake and mountains. Also glacier walking, rafting, caving, canyoning and riding can be chosen by the adventurous travelers.
Why to go there?: Wonderful sites, various activities.
When to go there?: All year round except winter, when it gets quite cold and dark.
How to get there?: Get there by train or bus from Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen. Or by car from various cities.
