Petermann Glacier is the largest floating glacier in the Northern Hemisphere, located in Northwest Greenland. It connects the Greenland ice sheet to the Arctic Ocean. Petermann Glacier consists of approximately 500 square miles of ice in the middle and about 30-80 on the edge. In August 2010, a huge iceberg broke off from the floating part of Petermann Glacier reducing its volume by 10% and its area by about 25%.
